Larry and I went to the Hog in the Fog, which was the silent auction/wine tasting/bbq dinner/live auction event put on by the Russian River Valley Winegrowers. First of all we really lucked out with the weather being absolutely perfect! It was in the mid 80's. The event was held at Richards Grove and Saralee's Vineyard outside of Windsor. When we arrived there were over 50 wineries under the pavilion or umbrellas. Some of the wineries there were Merry Edwards, Decliner, C. Monticello, Lynmar Estate, Harvest Moon, Topel, Davis Family Vineyards, Merriam Vineyards, Dutton Goldfield, Balletto, Holdredge Wines, Sam Rodgers-Daniel, Trione, Porter-Bass, Graton Ridge, John Tyler, Forchini Vineyards, Sunce', Tres Sabores, and V Madrone. Each winery brought between 2-5 different wines for us to sample. For the most part there were Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Syrah, and some Cabernet Sauvignon. Everyone was so nice and were having such a great time. There were some very nice silent auction and live auction items for bidding. We bid and won, dinner and wine for two persons to the Make-a-Wish Foundation Winter fundraiser in February! Looking forward to going to that. I walked around the grounds quite a bit and saw all the foods that were being bbq'd such as; tri-tip, chicken and garden vegetables. They were using the pizza oven for appetizers being passed around. Kozlowski Farms was there with 3 of their different jams/spreads. I especially liked their apricot chipotle sauce with grilled sausage dipped in it. Redwood Hill Farm, goat, dairy and creamery was there from Sebastopol. Their rep, David, had a sampling the chili chevre that he had put together; as well as goat feta and goat parmesan. It was all so delicious. At a different booth I rolled my own truffle into cocoa and plopped it into my mouth. Another booth had a cucumber/cilantro gazpacho soup served with fresh crab on top. After roaming around eating and drinking for 2 1/2 hours we sat down to the buffet feast. They had long rows of tables so you could sit family style. We sat with our son Brandon and daughter-in-law Kim and their friends. Besides the vegetables, beef and chicken they had pulled-pork soft tacos, coleslaw, and a Greek salad. To top things off they offered fresh Dutton Ranch Gravenstein apple pie ala’ mode. The whole evening and event was fantastic, everyone had a great time and left with full bellies and happy smiles. I can’t wait to go next year!
